WATSON multi-stakeholder workshop on honey supply chain vulnerability

WATSON

In December 2023, our partners ASINCAR and IGP Miel de Asturias organised a hybrid multi-stakeholder workshop as part of the WATSON project.

The workshop aimed to identify vulnerable nodes in the regional protected geographical indication (PGI) honey supply chain.

About the workshop

The primary objectives of the workshop were to pinpoint the main vulnerable points within the regional PGI honey supply chain and to evaluate the fraud vulnerability through the implementation of the SSAFE tool. This tool is renowned for its effectiveness in identifying and mitigating food fraud risks. Thus, the hands-on approach ensured that participants could apply the knowledge gained to their operations, enhancing overall supply chain security.

The workshop saw active participation from a diverse range of stakeholders, including honey producers, packers, distributors, retailers and other key players supporting the honey sector. This inclusive approach ensured that various perspectives and expertise were brought to the table, enhancing the workshop’s overall effectiveness.

The multi-stakeholder workshop organised by ASINCAR and IGP Miel de Asturias under WATSON was a significant step towards strengthening the integrity of the regional PGI honey supply chain.

By bringing together key stakeholders and using the SSAFE tool, the workshop successfully identified vulnerable nodes and provided actionable solutions to mitigate fraud risks.
