WATSON at the “51st Annual Food Science & Technology Conference”

On December 6th-7th, 2023, our project coordinator, University College Dublin, presented WATSON at the “51st Annual Food Science and Technology Conference.”

The event was held at the Teagasc Food Research Centre in Ashtown (Dublin, Ireland) and organised by the Institute of Food Science & Technology of Ireland (IFSTI).

About the conference

The conference, themed “Food Systems in a Changing World – the Science, Challenges and Opportunities”, aimed to address the evolving landscape of food science and technology amidst global changes.

The event brought together over 120 scientists at the Teagasc Food Research Centre, fostering discussions and knowledge exchange on pivotal issues in the food sector.

The conference was structured around six main themes:

  1. Addressing Climate Challenges in Agri-Food Production
  2. Bio-Based Solutions for Food Production and Processing
  3. Data and Digitalisation Advances in Food Systems
  4. Engaging the Consumer and Society
  5. Safe, Healthy and Sustainable Food Innovation
  6. Zero Waste Approaches to Address Food Loss and Waste
Our contribution to the conference

Dr. Zhijun Wang (University College Dublin) presented WATSON, detailing its objectives, progress and expected results, highlighting how our project is addressing key challenges in the food industry through advanced research and technological solutions.

The conference provided an opportunity to engage with fellow scientists, fostering collaborations and discussions on future research directions and innovative solutions in the food sector.



The “51st Annual Food Science and Technology Conference” was a great way to showcase the WATSON project and engage with leading scientists in the field.

The event underscored the importance of innovation, sustainability and collaboration in addressing the challenges facing the global food system.
