The WATSON project kicked off its Finnish dairy and cereal pre-pilot in Vaasa (Finland), on November 2nd, 2024. Hosted at Bock’s Corner Brewery during the vibrant Autumn Haymarket event, the pre-pilot highlighted the innovative contributions of our Finnish partners VTT, UpCode and Hämeen Ammatti-Instituutti in advancing food traceability and authenticity through advanced technologies.
Highlighting local excellence
The pre-pilot featured cheeses from Hämeen Ammatti-Instituutti and craft beer from Bock’s Corner Brewery, celebrating the local producers’ commitment to quality and sustainability.
These products became the focal point of an experiment designed to enhance consumer confidence and ensure authenticity.
WATSON smart tags: the future of food traceability
Central to this pre-pilot was the deployment of smart tags developed by our partner UpCode.
These tags provide consumers with detailed insights into the product’s journey, from production to the table, fostering trust and transparency in the food chain.
With just a scan, users can access information about origin, safety and sustainability, making informed choices easier than ever.

The Finnish dairy and cereal pre-pilot is a key step in WATSON’s effort to enhance traceability in the agri-food sector.
As WATSON continues its journey across European use cases, the Finnish pre-pilot highlights our project’s potential to reshape food systems and empower stakeholders.
